Accessibility
Level up your inclusive advertising
Make your ads inclusive by representing the needs of 16% of people who have disabilities.
Accessibility services are features designed to open up broadcast or digital content to a broader range of people — not only those with disabilities, but people in many situations where those features can help. From closed captioning to signing, Peach helps brands globally with a variety of accessibility options making ads more inclusive and opening up a substantial audience.
How it works
There are several ways to make ads accessible to everyone:
Closed Captions (CC)
Text based captions, designed to support those with an audio impairment, have the option of being switched on or off by the user.
CC are not only used by those with disabilities, but also people who have a different native language, parents of young children and increasing numbers of young people.
Open Captions (OC)
Also called ‘burnt in’ captions, open captions are added to the content itself and available all the time — there is no option to ever switch them off. OC are ideal for playing content in environments like waiting rooms, for those who are hard of hearing or for social media.
Audio Description (AD)
A user enabled service that narrates visual content & describes any important visual details that would not be understood from the soundtrack alone for those who are visually impaired.
Accessible Transcript
Descriptions of imagery accessed via screen readers for when audio description isn't available.
Sign Interpretation
Interpretation of spoken language into sign language, for deaf people via an on-screen interpreter.
All around the world
Peach supports accessible advertising in multiple regions around the world and we are expanding all the time as more broadcasters and publishers continue to accept these file types.
Accessibility services in Peach Connect
Peach Connect offers global ad delivery with support for closed captioning and audio descriptions for destinations that support them.
Audio description
Audio Description (AD) is a narration track overlaid on an advert that explains what’s happening on screen — body language, expressions, action and movements — helping make videos clear through sound beyond.
This is particularly helpful for those who experience impaired vision or blindness. Globally, at least 2.2 billion people have a vision impairment (WHO): a staggering number of people who could benefit from a more widespread use of AD in the media and ads they consume.
By making sure that ads have an AD option, advertisers are able to market their products to this huge group and demonstrate their commitment to inclusivity. This is where Peach comes in:
Peach Connect recently added new features to streamline the AD workflow:
- Deliver ads with Audio Description (AD) globally
- Quality control for AD files: make sure they align with the ad, are accurate and of high quality
These new features save you time and enable you to keep track of the ads you have sent with AD, all within Peach Connect.
Captioning
1. Send ads with captions applied
Simply upload your video asset with captions already applied, and attach your script file in PDF, DOC, DOCX or TXT formats.
2. Add captions through our partner
In the UK, we partner with Adtext who can subtitle your ads through an easy-to-use integration in Peach Connect. Read more…
Audio descriptions (AD)
Cape can help you create AI-generated voice overs - describing what is going on in the ad. Perfect for creating inclusive ads at scale, it makes versioning super simple for regions which need various legal disclaimers like France.
Closed captions (CC)
Cape can save you time and effort when creating subtitling files with it’s automatic subtitling functionality which can automatically feed subtitles into video ads for a variety of languages and for ads with a variety of visual variety.
The bigger picture
16% of the world population experience significant disability (World Health Organisation: Global report on health equity for persons with disabilities). There is also a large number of potential ad viewers who can’t access campaigns.
Accessible advertising benefits a range of people, and not just people with audio and visual disabilities — accessible campaigns work on multiple levels. For example:
- People who are watching content not in their first language
- Those experiencing age-related hearing loss
- Videos on social media so people can watch it with the sound off
- Young mothers wanting to watch TV while getting their child to sleep
- Research shows that watching content with subtitles can help with children’s reading skills
